What does a county supervisor do?

The Board of Supervisors acts as both the legislative and executive authority in Yolo County. Under Government Code Section 25000, every county in California is required to have 5 members on the Board of Supervisors. These 5 members pass county ordinances, oversee county departments and programs, and approve the annual county budget.

What services are managed by the Board of Supervisors?

The Board of Supervisors manages county-based services. This includes:

•The Assessor & Tax Collection
•Land Use Planning
•Elections
•Employment Services
•Environmental Health
•General Assistance - CalWorks, CalFresh, WIC
•Health and Mental Health Services
•Protective Services for Children and Adults
•Public Safety/Detention/Justice for Adults and Juveniles including the District Attorney and the Public Defender
•Public Health
•County Library System
•Public Works and County Roads

How can I make public comment to the board of supervisors?

The Board of Supervisors meets every other Tuesday at 9am. The calendar can be found here. Brief remarks can be made in person in front of the Board of Supervisors during the bi-monthly meeting.
