Focus Areas

As a County Supervisor, I’m committed to serving our community in a range of subject matters. Here are a few of my focus areas:

Agriculture

Strengthen our commitment to open space, preservation of ag land, and a strong agricultural economy.

“[I hope to regularly engage with especially rural voters and those in the agricultural community, to solicit their opinions and hear from them and try to use that information to help inform my policy-making process.” - Lucas

Serve as an ally and partner to collaboratively create a county culture that promotes and sustains the well-being of women in both elected and appointed leadership positions.

Gun Violence Prevention

Create a Yolo County Gun Violence Prevention Collaborative (YGVPC), bringing together diverse organizations to work collaboratively to identify and address contributing factors that lead to gun violence. Learn more here.

“Gun violence is a public health epidemic in this country and is currently the number one killer of children and teens in America. […] Even one death is too many. We all deserve to feel safe in our communities.” - Lucas

Lucas Frerichs and Moms Demand Action members stand together holding a sign supporting gun reform.

Hate Free Together

Provide support to educate the public on what it means to be a hate-free community and provide resources, support and opportunities for actions that help to condemn hate, create safety, and cultivate change. See the website here.

“Hate is a cycle that can be broken if we cultivate change, prioritize education and stand up together. We ask the entire community to join us in this fight and learn how we can all work to become Hate-Free Together.” - Lucas

Initiate the Crisis Now partnership between Yolo County, cities, & UC Davis, to provide increased mental health services.

Environment & Climate Change

Ensure that Yolo County leads the nation in preparation for, and response to, climate change through innovation, commitment, and courage.

“I care deeply about environmental justice, conservation, open space preservation, and fighting climate change. I believe that stewardship of the environment is not a standalone issue, but one that impacts all facets of public policy – health, public safety, job creation, education and quality of life” - Lucas

Transportation

Invest in critical transportation infrastructure, such as repaving county roads & bike paths, building a safer pedestrian crossing at Winters’ I-505/Russell interchange, and supporting enhanced transit service options with YoloBus and the Capitol Corridor.
