“Gun violence is a public health epidemic in this country and is currently the number one killer of children and teens in America. While we are fortunate to live in a state with the strongest gun laws and lowest per capita gun violence, even one death is too many. We all deserve to feel safe in our communities. Through this Collaborative, District Attorney Reisig and I hope to elevate the conversation in Yolo County and proactively work to educate leaders and community members on ways that we can work together to prevent gun violence in Yolo County.” - Supervisor Frerichs

“I unequivocally support our county staff (including those working for the libraries) and our local public school teachers who have been under attack from anti-LGBTQ+ organizations. I also remain a proud and committed ally of our LGBTQ+ community and I condemn these repeated terroristic threats against our community.” - Supervisor Frerichs

“This is one of the trade-offs of living in an agricultural county. On the whole, we’re very, very grateful to have such a robust agricultural community here in Yolo County.” - Supervisor Frerichs

“The need to improve this major transportation corridor in District 2 is one of the top concerns consistently shared with me by residents in both Winters and in Davis. Beginning work on this stretch of CR 31 is long overdue, and I am grateful to the Yolo County Public Works team for taking this next step to address the conditions of this important roadway. Improving the conditions of this corridor will continue to be one of my top priorities.” - Supervisor Frerichs

“I’d like us all to adjourn today’s meeting in memory of Dennis Dingemans. He was a longtime Davis resident and UCD geography professor. He died on June 21 following almost two decades living with Parkinson’s disease. In 1972, Dennis began his long teaching career at UCD and taught courses in urban, economic and political geography. Quantitative methods, eastern Europe, and world regional geography winning teaching awards from the National Counsel for Geographic Education and the UCD Academic Senate. He also co-authored two books, one on the history of Woodland and one on the history of UCD. He was an avid bicycle rider all his life and always biking to work at UCD and he completed three Davis, double-century bike rides.” - Supervisor Frerichs

“Art goes beyond visual mediums like paintings or sculptures; it encompasses diverse forms of expression. Art often serves as a platform for thought, emotion, and intuition, making it a powerful tool to promote understanding and explore social change. It provides an effective means to discuss the community’s vision and desire for a hate-free environment.” - Supervisor Frerichs

“By being here tonight, you are part of our growing network of people working to ensure children, youth and families have current and accurate information about the services available in our community to help them to thrive. Your participation matters because you understand what assets exist in Winters. That information is going to be used to address gaps and shortcomings in the system.” - Supervisor Frerichs

“For our communities to prosper, our collective dedication is focused on expanding the availability of housing in the region, both market-rate and affordable housing.” - Supervisor Frerichs

“Residents of Davis have long prioritized the acquisition and conservation of open space. We appreciate Sen. Dodd’s support of this important issue, which will allow us to further our community’s desired goal of protecting our natural and working lands through use of permanent conservation easements.” - Supervisor Frerichs

“David Breaux was beloved. He was probably one of the most peaceful, gentle people you’ll ever come across. Karim Abou-Najm — also peaceful and gentle. And promising. He grew up here. And a homeless woman, so vulnerable. And the violence of these attacks.” - Supervisor Frerichs

“One of the things I heard regularly while I was campaigning for the Board of Supervisors was concerns from rural parts of the county that there might not be adequate representation of those viewpoints on the supervisors. [ I hope to] regularly engage with especially rural voters and those in the agricultural community, to solicit their opinions and hear from them and try to use that information to help inform my policy-making process.” - Supervisor Frerichs

“There’s a variety of things the collaborative’s going to take on — educating the public, developing and implementing evidence-based gun-prevention strategies, working on policy solutions here at the local level. We also want to inspire other jurisdictions, other government agencies around California, to take similar actions.” - Supervisor Frerichs

“Each tragedy creates community tragedy and harms our kids and families in far-reaching ways.” - Supervisor Frerichs

“I also think that the Davis community has previously demonstrated its willingness to step up and fund its branch of the Yolo County Library and I think that the community will do so again when given the opportunity to help out…” - Supervisor Frerichs

“The National Labor Relations Act was passed in 1935, which allows for an opportunity to organize, to collectively bargain and take collective action. Even though that law has been in effect for almost 90 years, corporations are still trying to attack workers and stop workers from organizing. This may be the beginning, but this is not the end, not in the least.” - Supervisor Frerichs

“There are a lot of great educational institutions in our region, including UC Davis, that we could be working with in future contracts like this. I definitely appreciated the comments that were raised last month, but I think that I’m personally very satisfied with the work that’s been done.” - Supervisor Frerichs

“After taking the oath of office, Frerichs shared the priorities he hoped to focus on while on the board, including expanding mental health services, creating and supporting leadership opportunities for women in Yolo County and the continued investment in county infrastructure.”

“Part of me is enjoying reclaiming the community. But one of the things that makes a college town so wonderful is the vibrant young population. They’re the lifeblood, and without them — well, the squirrels are having a field day. But for the rest of us, it’s just so quiet.” - Supervisor Frerichs

“I am proud to call Yolo County home, and am grateful for the opportunity to serve our diverse communities as a county supervisor. I am excited to see many of the projects I have mentioned brought to fruition and I am confident that no matter what may come, Yolo County and its residents will remain steadfast in our commitment to community resilience and to helping those in need.” - Supervisor Frerichs

Traffic on Interstate 80 is often frustratingly slow through Davis, and has been for years. What’s the remedy? Caltrans proposes adding a fourth lane, and the options include allowing free use of the lane only to vehicles with at least three occupants — anyone else using the lane would pay a toll. That’s the option the Yolo Transportation District Board unanimously endorsed a couple weeks ago. On today’s Davisville we talk with Autumn Bernstein, executive director of the Yolo Transportation District, and Lucas Frerichs, who chairs the county Board of Supervisors and is a former mayor of Davis, about what's proposed, and why.
